• To which standards does the electrical installation of Aquasol Solar comply?

  The electrical installation connecting our solar panels complies with the most recent Dutch NEN 1010 standards. This ensures that our installations are acceptable to all insurers.

• Is my installation suitable for feeding energy back into the grid?

  Our installations comply with the Dutch Netcode Electricity regulations, meeting the requirements set by grid operators and metering companies for energy delivery to the grid.

• Do any materials from the installation leak into irrigation or surface water?

  Aquasol Solar uses glass-glass panels composed of two bonded glass sheets. The solar cells that convert light into electricity are enclosed between them, preventing contact with the environment. This design is highly durable and emission-free.

  Our floaters are made from sustainable plastics that comply with the Drinking Water Safety standard BS 6920. We use virgin (new) HDPE materials due to their quality and food safety, which are also fully recyclable. Recycled materials are not used for these reasons.

• Why is choosing a Tier ONE panel manufacturer important?

  Tier 1 solar panel brands must meet the following criteria:

  • Vertically integrated production

  • Significant investment in R&D

  • Fully automated production with maintained quality

  • At least five years of solar panel manufacturing experience
    These criteria, established by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, address the financial reliability of solar panel manufacturers.

• What is the strength of the system’s internal connections (e.g., uneven floater load or wind suction)?

  Pull tests on the floaters show that a horizontal force of over 10 kN is required before a connector fails. The anchoring system distributes forces across the structure to ensure no single point exceeds the maximum load.

• What are the benefits of bifacial solar panels?

  These panels work on both sides. Instead of a white or black backsheet, they have glass or transparent film. The cells can capture reflected light (e.g., from water surfaces), increasing efficiency.

• What are microcracks?

  Microcracks are small fractures in solar cells caused by mechanical stress. They degrade panel performance. The Aquasol Solar system minimizes this risk due to:

  • Installation on a stable platform

  • Each panel having its own floater

  • Independent panel positioning

  • Use of All Back Sheet panel designs that reduce microcrack formation

• Are the installation materials recyclable?

  Our floaters, made from high-grade HDPE, are recyclable. Glass-glass panels are 95% recyclable through specialized facilities like PV Cycle.
  Aquasol Solar is registered with the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) system and contributes a recycling fee for each panel. This ensures free collection and recycling of panels when needed.
  Participation in WEEE is also a prerequisite for green financing and may offer fiscal advantages. Consult your accountant or tax advisor.Aquasol Solar is toegetreden tot het WEE register. • Have wind suction and ballast been considered, similar to flat-roof installations?

  Yes, anchoring is calculated based on specific conditions of the water location—such as depth, water level variation, waves, and wind—along with platform shape and size.

• Is my installation storm-proof and insurable?

  Our floating solar panels are anchored using specialized systems from Seaflex (offshore anchoring, Sweden) and Genap (basin liners). We offer a 15-year warranty on both floaters and anchoring.

• Why does Aquasol Solar provide a property tax (WOZ) advantage?

  A court ruling determined that floating solar panels are movable assets and should not be included in the Real Estate Tax (OZB) declaration. Unlike roof-mounted panels, which are fixed and considered immovable property, floating panels can save you significant tax annually.

• What is the value of a GVO certificate (as of November 2024)?

  If you generate sustainable electricity and register production via a CertiQ meter, you can receive a GVO (Guarantee of Origin) certificate for each kWh produced. These are tradable and currently valued at approximately €0.01 per kWh. Trading can be done through energy suppliers.

• What safety features are included in the installation?

  • Overload protection (AC)

  • Anti-islanding protection (DC shutdown if AC fails)

  • Reverse polarity protection

  • Continuous DC insulation resistance monitoring

  • PV string fault monitoring

  • AC and DC surge arresters (internal overvoltage protection)

• How is the system built?

  We construct the system using scaffolding along the basin edge, equipped with slides. Panel sets are assembled on a platform and launched row-by-row into the water. We do not enter the basin, thus avoiding damage to the basin liner.

• What happens if a floating component leaks?

  Each panel has two floaters, and the system consists of many independent components. A leaking floater has minimal impact—the panel will sit slightly lower but remain supported by adjacent floaters. Panels do not submerge, and damaged floaters are easily replaceable.
